DENVER — Courtney Yuen is a Reporter at 9NEWS in Denver, Colorado.

She joined the team in February 2022.

She came to the Denver-area in 2018, excited to explore the beautiful state and communities of Colorado.

Before that, she reported at NBC4 WCMH-TV in Columbus, Ohio from 2016-2018. There, she and photojournalist Jason Dille received their first Emmy-nomination for a story that profiled the inspiring physical and mental resilience of a military veteran and ultra-endurance bicyclist, Joe Lawhorn.

She began her professional career in the Quad Cities, Illinois/Iowa reporting at KWQC TV-6 from December 2013-2016. There she spent a lot of time covering the flooding of the Mississippi River, and agricultural communities.

Courtney was born and raised in the suburbs of Chicagoland. She has her mother and father to thank for her never-ending sense of curiosity. When she’s not reporting, you’ll find her hiking, camping and watering her plants.

In 2013, Courtney earned her bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Her first gig as a reporter was in 2009, working for the independent student-run newspaper, The Daily Illini. Soon after, she joined the alternative-rock radio station WPGU 107.1 FM. There, she started out as an on-air personality playing tunes and talking to herself from 3-6 AM.

Courtney enjoys telling impactful stories that inform and uplift our communities. She also enjoys meeting new people and giving a platform to underrepresented voices. Please reach out to her if you have story ideas you’d like to share.
